Seven individuals, including former Law Minister Anisul Huq and former adviser to the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Salman F Rahman, have been shown arrested in connection with multiple cases filed over the July uprising in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq on Monday granted the orders after the investigation officers produced the accused before the court and submitted petitions to show them arrested in connection with the respective cases.
The court then sent them back to jail.
Other individuals shown arrested include former ministers – Hasanul Haq Inu and Rashed Khan Menon, former Dhaka North City mayor Atiqul Islam, former MP Sadeq Khan, and lawyer-activist former MP Syed Sayedul Haque Suman.
Of the seven, Anisul, Salman, Inu, Menon, Sadek Khan and Atiqul were shown arrested in the Shahriar Hossain Rokon attempted murder case filed with the Mohammadpur Police Station.
According to the case documents, Shahriar joined an anti-discrimination student rally on July 19, 2024, in Mohammadpur area. When the rally reached in front of Mayur Villa, it came under attack, and Rokon got shot in his left leg. On September 3, Rokon’s father, Monir Hossain, filed the case.
Another case details stated that lawyer Abdul Baset Shamim was returning his home in Mugda from workplace on July 18, 2024. When he reached in front of Babu Doctor Goli in Mugda, he was hit by rubber bullets in various parts of his body.
Shamim later filed the case with the Mugda Police Station on September 1.
In addition, Anisul Huq and Rashed Khan Menon have been shown arrested in separate cases filed with Jatrabari and Rampura police stations.
