Garment workers have blocked a road in the capital’s Mirpur-10 area, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk30,000.
The demonstration began around 8:30am on Sunday.
Vehicular movement has been halted in Mirpur-10, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-12 and adjacent areas.

Md Nasher Rikabdar, deputy commissioner (Mirpur Division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said the workers had been blocking roads for several days to press for a minimum monthly wage of Tk30,000. As part of their ongoing protest, they again blocked roads on Sunday morning.
“We are speaking with the workers and trying to convince them to withdraw the blockade,” he said.
The protest has brought traffic to a standstill, causing severe inconvenience for commuters heading to their workplaces.
Meanwhile, in response to the ongoing labour unrest over workers’ demands, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed in Chandra and Palli Bidyut areas, as well as Safipur, Konabari, Mouchak, Naojor and Bhogra Bypass areas of Gazipur to maintain normal law and order.
