Fabio Silva scored a late equaliser as Borussia Dortmund held Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw in a thrilling Bundesliga clash at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.
Harry Kane missed a penalty for Bayern, who twice took the lead but failed to secure all three points.
The result left Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table, ahead of Dortmund on goal difference after eight matches. Dortmund thought they had taken an early lead when Jobe Bellingham found the net. However, the referee ruled out the goal after Carney Chukwuemeka fouled Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.
Bayern then went ahead in the 38th minute through Konrad Laimer. He made a run forward and scored from the rebound after his first effort was saved. The hosts had a chance to double their lead early in the second half when they won a penalty.
Kane stepped up but struck the crossbar. The England captain, who won the Ballon d’Or earlier in the week, could not add to his goal tally.
Dortmund took advantage of the miss and equalised in the 60th minute.
Serhou Guirassy scored with a low shot past Urbig after receiving a pass from Chukwuemeka. However, Bayern regained the lead just six minutes later.
Kane headed the ball back across goal, allowing Dayot Upamecano to score from close range. Kane later hit the crossbar again, although the referee had already raised the flag for offside.
Dortmund continued to push for another equaliser and finally found one in the 89th minute. Silva received the ball from Konstantinos Karetsas and fired past Urbig to make it 2-2.
Bayern almost snatched a winner in stoppage time, but Lennart Karl struck the crossbar. The hosts played under assistant coach Aaron Danks, with manager Vincent Kompany absent after leaving hospital earlier in the week.
The draw kept both teams level on points at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
