Biman Bangladesh Airlines has formed a four-member investigation committee to identify the cause of a technical glitch that delayed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s return flight from Japan by more than four hours.

The committee was formed through an office order issued by the airline’s Administration and Human Resources Directorate on Friday , with instructions to submit its report within seven working days.

The panel will examine the exact cause and nature of the technical fault, review the measures taken to ensure the aircraft’s airworthiness and assess the incident’s impact on flight schedules, passenger inconvenience and the airline’s institutional reputation.

According to Biman sources, the four-member panel will submit its findings to the airline’s managing director and chief executive officer.

The technical problem occurred on Thursday when Biman flight BG 377, carrying the prime minister, his wife and other members of his entourage, was preparing to leave Japan’s Narita International Airport for Dhaka.

The flight was scheduled to depart at 6pm local time. After boarding and pushback, the aircraft moved towards the runway but had to stop following a technical warning related to its spoiler system in the cockpit.

The take-off was cancelled, and passengers were asked to disembark as the aircraft returned to the tarmac for inspection.

Biman’s engineering team, assisted by Japanese technicians, subsequently identified and repaired the fault.
