Filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has regained access to his Facebook account after being unable to log in for four days. The former interim government cultural affairs adviser shared the news in a post on his verified account late Thursday night, 29 October.
Announcing his return, Farooki wrote: “Senior Facebooker is back. Thanks to those who worked to take down my account. Just because I was away from Facebook, the pace of all my work — shooting, pre-production and post-production — increased tenfold over the past four days.”
He also reflected on the break from social media, saying it had benefited his mental health and allowed him to spend uninterrupted time with his family.
“Most importantly, not having to see the online nonsense and propaganda did wonders for my mental health. I also got back into the habit of spending time with my family without interruptions. Should I send them a gift for that?” he wrote.
Farooki had earlier reported the problem on Saturday evening, 24 October. He said he had been unable to access his Facebook account since that morning.
“I woke up and tried to log in to Facebook, but I haven’t been able to get in since then. They tried to hack it. When they failed, they deactivated the account,” he said.
The filmmaker alleged that a smear campaign against him had been circulating on social media for some time. He claimed that after those efforts failed, his Facebook account became the target of an attack.
