Bangladeshi cinema is entering uncharted territory with Gaap, billed as the country’s first film made entirely with artificial intelligence (AI), receiving uncut release clearance from the Bangladesh Film Certification Board in the short-film category.

According to production sources, board members praised the film and approved it without cuts.

Directed by Mabrur Rashid Bannah and produced by Akbor Haider Munna, Gaap features AI visual artist Arch Shihab, Bannah, Rizvi Rizu, Sinthia Yasmin Nupur, Misti Ghosh, Momena Chowdhury, Saiful Islam Rafi and Jahangir Alam, among others.

Bannah called the project a bold experiment, saying the team persevered despite doubts about fully AI-powered filmmaking. International-standard AI tools helped create its frames, while AI contributed to screenplay development, character creation, animation, background music and visual effects.

He hopes the film will inspire young filmmakers to explore emerging technology and open new possibilities for Bangladeshi cinema.

Gaap is scheduled to release on 31 October on Club Eleven Entertainment’s YouTube channel.
