Nine polling officials have been withdrawn from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency by-election following allegations of directly and indirectly supporting the ruling party, and new officials have been appointed in their place.
Kamrul Islam, district returning officer and district election officer, confirmed the withdrawal of the polling officials. He said they were withdrawn in view of various allegations and new officials have been appointed to those positions.
According to the list of withdrawn officials, they include teachers from various educational institutions and a bank official.
The withdrawn officials are Masud Rana, assistant presiding officer at Sabuj Government Primary School polling centre in Thakurgaon Municipality; Jaynal Abedin, assistant presiding officer at Thakurgaon Government College polling centre; Zulfikar Ali, assistant presiding officer at Thakurgaon Road Girls’ High School polling centre; Farida Yasmin, assistant presiding officer at Gopalpur Government Primary School polling centre; Sadekul Islam, assistant presiding officer at Salandar Panchpir Danga Independent Ebtedayee Madrasah polling centre; Mohammad Ali Jinnah, assistant presiding officer at Singia Munsipara Government Primary School polling centre; Obaidur Rahman, assistant presiding officer at Daulatpur Soleman Khan Multilateral High School polling centre; Shahadul Islam, assistant presiding officer at Balapara Bi-Lateral High School polling centre; and Abdul Jabbar, assistant presiding officer at Borogram Alim Madrasah polling centre.
Polling for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election will take place on Thursday.
