Bangladesh Coast Guard provided emergency medical assistance to a seriously ill passenger aboard a Dhaka-bound launch after receiving a distress call through its emergency helpline, according to a press release issued on Monday.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, media officer of the Coast Guard, said the incident occurred at around 11.30pm on Sunday, when the MV Karnaphuli-13, travelling from Bhola to Dhaka, reached the Ananda Bazar area of Chandpur. The passenger suddenly fell ill, prompting their brother to call the Coast Guard’s 16111 helpline for assistance.

Following the distress call, a medical team from Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Chandpur promptly boarded the launch and provided the passenger with the necessary medical care.

The passenger was later transported by a Coast Guard boat to Sadarghat Launch Terminal in Dhaka for further treatment. From there, the passenger was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by CNG-powered auto-rickshaw under Coast Guard supervision.
