Bangladesh Coast Guard has deployed around 3,500 personnel in key areas to ensure security during the Durga Puja.
Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md Moinul Hasan disclosed this on Friday morning while inspecting security arrangements at the Mirpur Central Temple in Dhaka.
He said Coast Guard is working to ensure the security of 615 temples and puja mandaps across its four zones. Of these, 63 are in Eastern, 144 in Western, 371 in Southern and 37 in Dhaka zones, said a press release on Saturday.
Regarding safety on the water, the DG said public awareness campaigns and round-the-clock patrols are continuing to prevent river accidents. Special diving teams will remain ready at immersion sites to tackle any potential incidents.
Moinul Hasan urged citizens to call Coast Guard’s emergency service number, 16111, for assistance in any unpleasant situation.
