A devastating fire at “Tuptup Resto & Resort” in Inani, Cox’s Bazar, has tragically claimed the life of Nasrin Akter Mukta, 29, an English medium schoolteacher from Savar, leaving her dream of becoming an ideal educator unfulfilled.
The shocking news of her demise has cast a deep pall of gloom across the local area.
Mukta’s lifelong aspiration was to become an ideal teacher, dedicated to imparting education to turn her students into model human beings and becoming one of their most favourite educators.
After completing her studies, she joined Shopnobilash United School, an English medium institution situated at Niribili in the Ashulia Police Station area under Savar Upazila. Within a short period, she had established herself as a beloved teacher among her students.
Mukta had a distinguished academic record, having passed her SSC with credit from Savar Cantonment Board School and successfully completing her HSC from Savar Model College. She earned her Honours degree from the National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research (NITER) under the University of Dhaka, followed by a Master’s degree from Gono Bishwabidyalay. Six years ago, she tied the knot with her long-time love, Faisal Dewan.
An avid lover of travelling, Mukta had long harboured a desire to go on a trip with her female friends, though time and opportunity had eluded her. To fulfil that long-cherished wish, she set out with two female friends during the extended Puja holiday.
The catastrophe struck at around 7am on Saturday at the resort located in the Patuartek beach area along Marine Drive. Her two surviving friends, Airin Jahan Mim and Ima, were left completely bewildered and stunned by the sudden turn of events. They had just stepped out of their resort room and were strolling a few yards away when a fire erupted fiercely with a loud noise.
Although they screamed repeatedly for Mukta, intense flames rapidly engulfed the entire resort within moments. Watching the horrific scene before their eyes, the helpless friends could do nothing but roll on the ground in tears.
Mukta was the elder of two siblings, having one brother and one sister. She was the daughter of Mostafa Kamal, a retired Army Warrant Officer, and Nachima Akter Khushi.
Speaking via telephone from the spot on Saturday afternoon, the Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atikur Rahman Mazumder said that confirming the identity of the body might take some time.
