He confirmed his resignation in a Facebook post. He submitted his resignation letter to NCP Convenor Nahid Islam on Friday.
He cited the NCP’s electoral and political alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami and “the growing influence of it’s ideology within the party” as reasons for his decision.
In the letter, Abdur alleged that the NCP’s political stance during and after the election, along with its alliance with Jamaat, had allowed the latter’s ideological influence to spread from the central committee to the ward level.
He said many founding, talented and hardworking leaders had already left the NCP over the alliance. He had initially stayed, expecting the political alliance to remain separate from an ideological one.
He alleged that double standards within and outside the party had turned the political alliance into an ideological one that conflicted with his fundamental principles.
Abdur also said colleagues had labelled him a “Mujibist” over his views on historical matters, restricting his freedom of expression.
He argued that the NCP’s position on the country’s founding history had become aligned with the Jamaat-Shibir narrative, undermining the party’s independent ideological stance.
Saying it had become morally and ideologically impossible for him to continue, Abdur requested that his resignation take effect immediately.
