Garment workers from several factories blocked the road in the capital’s Uttara area for the second consecutive day on Thursday, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk30,000.

The workers began their demonstration by taking positions on the road in Rajlakshmi around 10:30am.

Kamrul Hasan Talukder, officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station, said that traffic on the road remained suspended due to the blockade.

The protesting workers said they had been demonstrating for several days to press for higher wages. They vowed to continue their movement until their demands were met.

On Wednesday, the workers also blocked the Airport Road from 11am to 1:30pm.

The blockade brought traffic to a standstill on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, causing severe congestion on the highway and surrounding roads.
