Yami Gautam is ready to explore a different side of her acting in Nayyi Navelli, an upcoming horror-comedy that blends dark humour, supernatural elements and Indian folklore.

According to NDTV, the actress says her character, Mohini, allowed her to embrace a more spontaneous and playful style of performance.

“I think audiences will see a side of me that is lighter, more spontaneous and a lot more playful,” Yami said, describing the role as a refreshing change that gave her greater freedom to experiment with comedy and physical expression.

Although her arrival initially brings harmony, her brother-in-law begins to suspect that she may be a daayan (witch).

Yami also praised composer G V Prakash Kumar’s music and choreographer Vijay Ganguly’s work, saying the dance sequences helped her explore Mohini’s carefree personality.

Produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under Colour Yellow Productions, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, the film also stars Adinath Kothare, Mita Vashisht, Sonal Jha and Sunita Rajwar.

Nayyi Navelli is scheduled to release in cinemas on 16 October.
