Was Salman Khan’s war drama changed to make China look better? YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has alleged that the government pressured the makers of Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace to reshoot the film because its original version portrayed China negatively.

The Indian Express reported that Rathee made the claim at a press conference on 11 October.

The film was initially announced as Battle of Galwan, based on the 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops.

Rathee alleged that officials wanted the makers to present China more favourably, though he offered no evidence in the remarks quoted in the report.

The film’s title changed in March. Director Apoorva Lakhia said the story went beyond battle to explore humanity, empathy and soldiers’ sacrifices.

Reports have also suggested that the makers toned down battlefield scenes and anti-China elements.

Bollywood Hungama recently reported that the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had issued a no-objection certificate for the revised version.

The film still needs certification from the Central Board of Film Certification. A 13 November release has reportedly been considered, but no date is confirmed.

The controversy has revived questions about whether diplomatic sensitivities shaped the film’s changes. The allegations remain unverified, and the makers have not publicly confirmed Rathee’s account.
