The Congress party has asked all its MPs to remain in Delhi on Monday as the party continues its protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities, while the INDIA bloc prepares for another demonstration in the national capital.
The Opposition alliance also plans to submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India as part of its protest over alleged irregularities in the electoral process, reports Economic Times.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has announced that the INDIA bloc will take to the streets again on 12 October, accusing Delhi Police and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers of using violence against students and women during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest demanding Kumar’s resignation.
Announcing the next round of demonstrations, Rahul said the Congress, the INDIA bloc and young people would gather in large numbers on Monday.
“On Monday, October 12, the Congress, the entire INDIA alliance, and the youth of the country will once again take to the streets in large numbers. And this time, too, the voice will resonate across the nation-louder than ever before.”
Directing a warning at Amit Shah, Rahul said the Opposition would not be intimidated by the deployment of police personnel or BJP-RSS workers.
Rahul also said the Opposition would meet Chief Justice Surya Kant on Monday to demand accountability over the alleged violence and the treatment of protesters.
Rahul also vowed that the students and young people allegedly attacked during the protest would receive justice and that those responsible would be held accountable.
