State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Saturday directed officials to collect information for the government’s Family Card programme with complete transparency and impartiality, regardless of beneficiaries’ political affiliations.
She issued the directive at a training workshop for data collectors and supervisors involved in the programme at the Nagarkanda Upazila Auditorium in Faridpur on 10 October.
Referring to the February election, Shama Obaed said the Family Card programme had been introduced before the ink marks on voters’ fingers had even faded.
“This is a landmark initiative of the BNP government that will ensure women’s empowerment at the grassroots level,” she said.
The state minister said the government had launched the programme with impoverished families, particularly women, in mind.
She expressed confidence that the Family Card would play an important role in helping women from poor households achieve financial independence.
Addressing the data collectors and supervisors, Shama Obaed urged them to carry out their responsibilities with complete honesty and impartiality.
“If you love your own families, you will perform your duties with 100 per cent transparency,” she said.
“It is not your concern which political party someone supports. You must discharge your responsibilities impartially to ensure the success of this programme.”
Nagarkanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rizwana Afrin chaired the workshop, which was moderated by Upazila Social Services Officer Kazi Nimeri.
Former Nagarkanda Upazila BNP General Secretary Saifur Rahman Mukul, Vice-President Mahbub Ali Mia, Organising Secretary Shawkat Ali Sharif, District Jubo Dal Joint General Secretaries Taibur Rahman Masud and Helal Uddin Helal, along with other local leaders, attended the programme.
