Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty believes her side can surprise even a team as strong as Australia if they manage to perform as one unit when the two sides meet in their historic ODI series.
Bangladesh will play their first-ever bilateral ODI series in Australia, with the opening match of the three-game series scheduled for Friday at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
The Tigresses have spent the last few days preparing for the unfamiliar conditions, using a practice match and training sessions to get a better understanding of the wicket.
“We are trying to prepare ourselves accordingly. We have played a practice match and are trying to get an idea about the wicket through our practice as well. There is also a mindset involved. We are looking forward to playing the match,” Joty told reporters on Thursday.
The Bangladesh captain believes their biggest weapon against the world’s strongest side can be their ability to perform together.
“Right now, it is more important to stay focused. We have to play as a team. We believe that if we can play as a team and perform as one unit, we can surprise any team,” she said.
Joty is also excited about the opportunity to play in Australia for the first time in a bilateral ODI series. While the different conditions present an obvious challenge, she wants her players to embrace it and show what they can do.
“We are very excited and very happy to be here. Playing in different conditions will always be a challenge, but the team is in a good position. The practice match here gave us a good idea of the kind of situations we will face. Cricket is a team game, and we have to show our ability on the field.”
The second ODI will be played on October 11, with the final match scheduled for October 14 at the same venue.
