Dengue cases are rising in Dinajpur, with 58 patients undergoing treatment at government hospitals across the district.
Most of the patients recently returned from Dhaka. One dengue-related death has been recorded in the district this year.
According to the health department, dengue cases remained relatively low from January to August but increased significantly in September and October.
The total number of identified dengue patients in the district has reached 635.
Jahangir Kabir, director of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, said three separate dengue wards for male and female patients have been opened at the hospital.
He said 29 new patients were admitted to the hospital over the past four days.
The patients are being treated under mosquito nets, while necessary medical services have been arranged.
Md Golam Rasul Rakhi, acting district civil surgeon, said most dengue patients in Dinajpur contracted dengue fever in Dhaka or other areas rather than locally. They later sought treatment at hospitals across the district.
Meanwhile, the Health Department has expressed concern over the dengue situation and the potential spread of Aedes mosquitoes during the upcoming winter season.
People have been urged to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae and keep their homes and surrounding areas clean to prevent dengue.
The district administration, municipality and civil surgeon’s office are jointly conducting cleanliness drives to combat the outbreak.
Public awareness activities, including loudspeaker announcements, leaflet distribution and volunteer initiatives, are also underway.
