Additional police have been deployed at Brac University in Dhaka after the private university received an email threatening a “mass bomb attack” on Tuesday.
Police were first deployed on the campus on Monday evening, with security further tightened from Tuesday morning following the threat.
Badda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Md Nasirul Amin confirmed the deployment, saying police had been stationed on the campus to ensure security and that their presence was increased on Tuesday.
Alongside local police, several intelligence agencies are investigating the threat.
According to information available, the threatening email was received at 6.44pm on Sunday from an email account named “Topical Chinese Man”.
The email warned that multiple bomb attacks would be carried out at around 11am on Tuesday.
Addressing people at Brac University, the email said: “I will carry out a mass bomb attack on Brac University located at Kha 224, Pragati Sarani, Dhaka 1212, Bangladesh. So if you see my face, know that none of you can stop what is going to happen. This attack will be carried out tomorrow, 6 October, at around 11am.”
Police sources said the university authorities forwarded the email to the relevant authorities immediately after receiving the threat, along with a cautionary message seeking everyone’s cooperation.
