The deadline for filing online VAT returns for the July and August 2026 tax periods through the e-VAT system has been extended to 15 October without any penalty for late submission.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) announced the extension in light of revised VAT return provisions introduced in the national budget for FY2026-27.
Under the revised rules, taxpayers are allowed to file VAT returns within three tax periods after the end of the relevant tax period.
As a result, a number of businesses did not submit their VAT returns for July and August through the e-VAT system.
In a notice, the NBR said businesses that have yet to file returns for the July and August tax periods may now do so by 15 October under Section 64(3) of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012.
Where applicable, businesses must also file their VAT returns for July, August and September through the e-VAT system by the same deadline.
The NBR urged businesses concerned to comply with the extended deadline and submit all applicable returns within the stipulated time.
