The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has approved 13 development projects involving Tk15,823 crore.
Of the total cost of the projects, Tk10,118 crore will come from government funds, Tk5,252 crore from foreign loans and grants, and Tk382 crore from the agencies’ own funds.
The approval came at a meeting held at the Secretariat on Tuesday, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The meeting approved projects in various sectors, including healthcare, water resources, local government, law and order, power, and airport infrastructure. The approvals included new projects as well as proposals for revisions and extensions of several ongoing projects.
Among the projects, the Health Services Division’s “Integrated Health System Response to Fight Against TB, HIV/AIDS and Malaria in Bangladesh” project has an estimated cost of Tk4,039 crore.
The duration of the “Establishment of Patuakhali Medical College and Hospital (1st Revised)” project has also been extended for the fourth time.
Following the revision, the project’s estimated cost has increased to more than Tk651 crore.
The new “Financial Sector Support Project-II (FSSP-II)” under the Financial Institutions Division has been allocated Tk1,276.30 crore.
The Ministry of Social Welfare’s “Development and Expansion of Existing Physical Disability Training Centres in Chattogram, Khulna and Rajshahi Divisions and Expansion of the Hostel Building and Capacity Enhancement at Protibondhi Raufabad, Chattogram, for Children with Intellectual Disabilities” project has been allocated Tk308.30 crore.
Additionally, the Ministry of Water Resources’ project to improve flood and river management and drainage in the Feni and Bamni river basins, including construction of the Musapur Regulator (Part-1), has an estimated cost of Tk751.77 crore.
Another project under the same ministry, “Protection of Shibpur, Dhania and Medua areas in Bhola Sadar and Daulatkhan upazilas from the erosion of the Meghna River,” will cost Tk605.24 crore.
The “Rural Infrastructure Development Project in Madaripur, Shariatpur and Rajbari districts (3rd Revised)” was also approved.
The Ministry of Home Affairs’ “Enhancement of Technical and Technological Capacity of RAB (2nd Revised)” project was also approved. At the same time, the Power Division’s “Land Acquisition for Construction of a Solar Power Plant in Sonagazi, Feni” project received approval.
In addition, Ecnec approved the “Expansion of Electricity Network in Three Hill Districts” project, and the “Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Expansion Project (Phase I) (3rd Revised).”
