The trailer of upcoming spy comedy ‘Udta Teer’ was unveiled in Mumbai on Wednesday, giving audiences a glimpse into the unusual story of a Pakistani agent who loses his memory after entering India, writes Hindustan Times.
Directed by debutant Akash A Kaushik, the film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. Its premise has already generated discussion on social media.
Khurrana plays Bilal Ahmad, a Pakistani spy who travels to India but suffers memory loss following an accident. He then mistakenly believes that he is an Indian spy.
Speaking at the trailer launch, Khurrana said he had no hesitation about taking on the role.
“It was part of the script. As an actor, you are ready to do anything. This is a spy comedy, a patriotic comedy, and a genre bender. I do what the script demands; I’m a director’s baby. It is a fantastic script,” he said.
The actor described Bilal as his “most difficult character”, explaining that he had to maintain a serious expression while chaos unfolded around him.
“It is the most difficult character because things were happening around him. I had to have that straight face, though there were moments when I felt like laughing, but I couldn’t. I had to be normal while there was chaos happening around me,” Khurrana said.
Sara Ali Khan, who stars opposite Khurrana, said the film’s unusual premise drew her to the project. She described it as a “unique and fresh film” and said playing a character unlike her real-life personality made the experience exciting.
Khurrana credited director Akash A Kaushik for creating the unusual story, calling it his “brain child”.
The film features an ensemble cast including Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Raghubir Yadav, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe. It also marks the late Mukul Dev’s final posthumous performance.
‘Udta Teer’ has been produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on 9 October.
