The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved two proposals to import urea fertiliser under government-to-government (G2G) arrangements for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The approvals were given at a committee meeting after reviewing two proposals submitted by the Ministry of Industries.
Under the first proposal, the committee approved an amendment to the existing G2G agreement with Fertiglobe Distribution Limited of the United Arab Emirates to allow the purchase of bulk granular urea fertiliser under both FOB (Free on Board) and CFR (Cost and Freight) terms during FY2026-27, reports unb.
The amendment will enable Bangladesh to procure fertiliser under either of the two internationally recognised delivery and pricing arrangements, according to the proposal.
Under the second proposal, the committee approved signing an agreement with Foreign Economic Corporation Prodintorg for importing prilled urea fertiliser under a G2G arrangement during the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The decisions are part of the government’s efforts to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fertiliser for agricultural production in FY2026-27.
