Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) exports to the United States rose 11.42 per cent year-on-year to $1.612 billion in the first two months of FY2026-27, driven by higher shipments in August.

The export earnings were $1.447 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

The July-August earnings accounted for 20.8 per cent of Bangladesh’s total RMG exports to the US market in FY2025-26, which stood at $7.744 billion.

The average monthly export value to the US market during July-August of the current fiscal year was $806.46 million, higher than the monthly average of $645.38 million implied by last year’s full-year performance.

However, the growth was largely driven by a strong performance in August, when exports to the US increased 25.65 per cent year-on-year. In July, exports recorded a slight decline of 0.18 per cent.

Analysis of the data indicates that if the current year-on-year growth pace of 11.42 percent holds throughout the remaining ten months of the fiscal year, total RMG exports to the US in FY2026-27 would reach approximately $8.629 billion up from $7.744 billion recorded in FY2025-26, said Mohiuddin Rubel, Founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Voice, a think tank in apparel sector.
