Police have detained former Awami League lawmaker Khondkar Mohammad Azizul Haque Arzu, whose party activities are currently banned, from Lalmatia in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
He was held around 10:30pm Monday in front of Mina Bazar, with the assistance of local Chhatra Dal leaders.
Mohammadpur police said Arzu, 69, sustained minor injuries during the scuffle at the time of detention. As he suffers from heart disease, he was sent to a doctor under police guard along with family members.
Police said the matter is under investigation and legal action will follow.
Azizul Haque was elected member of parliament from Pabna‑2 constituency in 2014.
