Two bodies have been recovered after four people, including a woman and a child, went missing in the Shitalakkhya river at Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi.

Divers recovered the bodies of Shanto, 15, and Obaidullah, 38, during a search operation on Saturday morning.

Efforts to find the other two missing persons are continuing.

On Friday afternoon, four people went missing after drowning in the Shitalakkhya river at Lakhpur village in Dulalpur union. As no trace was found by evening, the fire service suspended the operation overnight. On Saturday morning, divers from Bhairab in Kishoreganj arrived at the site and resumed the search, confirmed the Shibpur Fire Service Station Officer.

The missing are Mousa Shanta of Fulbaria village in Kapasia, Gazipur, and Saurav, son of Majnu Mia of Shibpur, Narsingdi.

Police, fire service, and locals said three of the missing had come to Majnu Mia’s house in Lakhpur to visit. In the afternoon, they went to bathe in the Shitalakkhya River with family members. Caught in the strong current and unable to swim, the three were swept into deep water. Saurav drowned while trying to rescue them.

Witnesses alerted locals, who also searched the river but failed to find them. The fire service was informed and launched an operation around 4:30pm, continuing until 5:30pm, before suspending the search until morning.
