The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) has arrested a fugitive sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and five members of a robbery gang, including its chief, during separate operations in the capital’s Mohammadpur on Monday.
A “samurai” (sword) was also recovered during the operations. RAB-2 disclosed the details in a press release on Tuesday.
According to RAB-2, a team conducted an intelligence-led raid in the Rayerbazar area of Mohammadpur and arrested Md Hasan, 30.
He is a convicted fugitive who was sentenced to two years in prison by a court in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
Hasan had been on the run for a long time and was allegedly involved in various crimes, including robbery, snatching, and drug-related offences in the Mohammadpur area.
He faces a total of 12 cases at Mohammadpur Police Station, including six under the Narcotics Control Act, three for snatching and robbery, and three General Register (GR) cases.
In another operation, acting on a tip-off, RAB-2 raided the three-way intersection adjacent to Bosila Road and arrested five members of a robbery gang while they were preparing to commit a robbery.
The arrested individuals are the gang leader Md Limon alias Rimon, 20, Md Emon, 22, Md Rubel, 26, Akash Arafat Shaif, 22, and Md Sohel Faraji, 20. A “samurai” was recovered from their possession.
RAB claimed that all five arrested individuals are accused in multiple cases at Mohammadpur Police Station and were involved in various criminal activities, including robbery and drug-related crimes in the area.
Among them, Rimon faces one case under the Speedy Trial Act and one GR case. Emon is accused in one robbery case and one GR case, while Rubel faces two cases under the Narcotics Control Act and one GR case.
Further legal action against the arrestees is currently underway, RAB-2 added.
