Russian air strikes disrupted life in the Kyiv region for a third straight day, with an attack in the Bucha district raising the death toll in the area to 37, officials said on Saturday.
Regional military administrator Tymur Tkachenko said the strikes caused fires that damaged a restaurant and 50 residential buildings, including a care home for elderly and disabled people. More than 370 residents were evacuated following the attacks, reports AP.
In Myla, an unspecified warehouse exploded. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has launched criminal proceedings over alleged negligence, citing regulations prohibiting the storage of ammunition near residential areas.
Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi condemned what he described as “criminal negligence” during the fifth year of the invasion, comparing the incident with a depot blast in Vyshneve earlier this month that killed 22 people.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces targeted drone boosters in Myla, components of Flamingo cruise missiles in Kyiv, and ports in Mykolaiv and Izmail.
Separately, shelling in the southern Kherson region on Saturday killed two people and injured 27 others, including a child. Regional head Oleksandr Prokudin warned that intensified attacks on infrastructure could lead to prolonged winter power outages in the territory, around 70 per cent of which is controlled by Russia. He urged tens of thousands of residents to evacuate.
