Fans of Mahanagar finally have reason to rejoice.
Filmmaker Ashfaque Nipun has indicated that work on the third instalment of the popular web series is moving forward, sharing a cryptic message with viewers on his birthday.
Nipun posted a video on social media to thank everyone who wished him on his birthday.
Towards the end of the video, he suddenly mentioned that he had an important task to complete, saying, “Let me finish the script now. I don’t have much time.”
His comment immediately sparked speculation among fans. He did not keep them guessing for long, however.
In the same video, Nipun sang the familiar opening tune of Mahanagar, making it clear that he is once again working on the much-anticipated third season.
The filmmaker has yet to reveal details about the new season’s story, shooting schedule or cast.
As a result, the direction the story will take in the third chapter remains under wraps.
Mosharraf Karim won widespread acclaim for his portrayal of police officer Harun in the first two seasons. He is expected to return to the role in the new instalment.
There has also been speculation that popular West Bengal actor Anirban Bhattacharya could make a special appearance in Mahanagar 3.
The second season was released in 2023, and fans have been waiting for the next chapter ever since.
The project’s future remained uncertain for a long time, with Hoichoi Bangladesh previously indicating that discussions over budget and other issues had stalled the next instalment.
There was even speculation that the third chapter could be developed as a film rather than a web series.
Nipun had earlier said that whether Mahanagar 3 would be made depended largely on decisions by the platform and production company.
His latest birthday message about completing the script now suggests that the long-awaited project is once again moving ahead, renewing anticipation for Harun’s return.
