The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming has called on entrepreneurs from China’s Yunnan province to invest, presenting the country as a promising destination connected to South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Chinese market.
At the Overseas Investment and Trade Environment Promotion Event hosted by the General Association of Yunnan Entrepreneurs under the theme “Connect to the South, Prosper through Open‑cooperation”, Bangladesh’s investment opportunities were highlighted.
Ridwanur Rahman, first secretary (commercial) of the Consulate General, delivered a presentation titled “Bangladesh as an Investment Destination.”
He said Bangladesh has become an important hub for international investors due to its competitive workforce, industrial land, energy facilities, nationwide electrification, and strategic location. As a connector between South Asia, Southeast Asia, and China, Bangladesh offers an effective gateway to the Chinese market.
He noted that the proposed Kunming–Chattogram corridor could serve as a vital trade route linking southwest China to the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, creating new opportunities for Yunnan entrepreneurs.
Ridwanur further emphasised that Bangladesh ensures a stable investment framework with provisions for 100 percent foreign ownership, capital and profit repatriation, and bilateral investment treaties with 34 countries including China.
He also highlighted the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone under construction in Anwara, Chattogram, BIDA’s one‑stop service, export processing zones, hi‑tech parks, and PPP projects worth over USD 4 billion.
Potential sectors identified include garments, pharmaceuticals, electronics, electric vehicles, agro‑processing, renewable energy, logistics, and IT services. He added that Chinese firms have special opportunities in solar power, energy storage technology, and green construction.
After the event, Yunnan entrepreneurs exchanged views with the Consulate’s commercial wing on expanding trade and investment in Bangladesh. The Consulate stated it is working to strengthen economic ties with Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, and Guangxi.
