A 25-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband following a family feud in the capital’s Gulbagh area on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Swapna Khatun from Tilapia area of Phulpur Police Station in Mymensingh.
According to Sub-Inspector (SI) Obaidul of Shahjahanpur Police Station, Swapna and her husband, Rubel Mia, lived as tenants in a ground-floor room of a house in Gulbagh. Rubel hails from Sandia area of Mymensingh Sadar Police Station.
SI Obaidul said an altercation broke out between the couple at around 10pm on Saturday. Although they went to sleep afterwards, another argument started between them at approximately 7:30am on Sunday.
At one stage of the dispute, Rubel reportedly became furious and grabbed Swapna by her throat, suffocating her to death.
Upon receiving the information, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. A detailed investigation into the incident is currently underway.
