A 41-year-old Mumbai Police constable deployed outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments has died after reportedly suffering a suspected heart attack while on duty.
According to Hindustan Times, the constable, identified as Ganesh Rayate, complained of feeling unwell at around 6pm on Friday. Other police personnel immediately took him to Bhabha Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Rayate was posted with LA-4 of the Mumbai Police. Police officials suspect he suffered a heart attack while on duty. His body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, however, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the medical report.
The incident comes as Salman remains under heightened security. His protection was upgraded to Y-plus in 2024 after the murder of his close friend and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique.
Salman has faced repeated threats allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which also claimed responsibility for Siddique’s murder. The threats have been linked to the long-running Black Buck case dating back to the 1990s.
Salman previously spoke about the increased security, saying, “God, Allah — it is all in His hands. One lives exactly as long as is ordained; that is all there is to it. Sometimes, having to move around with so many people becomes a problem.”
The constable’s death also comes after the April 2024 shooting outside Galaxy Apartments. Two men on a motorcycle fired several rounds outside Salman’s residence. Police later linked the attack to the Lawrence Bishnoi network.
Meanwhile, Salman is set to star in the patriotic war drama ‘Maatrubhumi’, formerly titled ‘Battle of Galwan’. Apoorva Lakhia is directing the film.
He has also teamed up with Telugu filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally for an action film. Nayanthara will star alongside him, while Jackie Shroff has also reportedly joined the cast.
