Netflix’s My Life with the Walter Boys season three finally gives fans what they have been waiting for: Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) and Cole Walter (Noah LaLonde) officially becoming a couple. However, their happiness does not last, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The season picks up after George Walter (Marc Blucas) suffers a heart attack, while Jackie, Cole and Alex (Ashby Gentry) deal with the fallout from Jackie and Cole’s interrupted love confession.

In the season three premiere, Jackie and Alex decide to go their separate ways after an honest conversation about their relationship.

Alex acknowledges that what he shared with Jackie was not the same as what she has with Cole.

Their conversation allows Jackie to finally move forward with Cole.

Jackie is the one who initiates their relationship, showing how much she has matured.

Cole is initially hesitant because he fears being hurt again, but the two soon settle into a healthy relationship.

They support each other through studies, work, track and personal challenges.

However, outside pressure begins to affect their romance.

Jackie struggles academically and professionally, while people around her blame Cole for distracting her from her Princeton ambitions. Cole begins to doubt whether he is good for her.

Eventually, he makes the painful decision to break up with Jackie.

Instead of telling her the truth, Cole claims that he is bored with the relationship and is not suited for commitment.

Jackie believes him because they have always been honest with each other, making the breakup even more devastating.

Showrunner Melanie Halsall described the breakup as “pretty brutal”, adding that it was intended to enrage fans. Both actors said the scene was deeply emotional to film.

The breakup also forces Jackie and Cole to confront their identities.

Jackie returns to focusing heavily on academics, while Cole struggles with his identity after losing football and battling the expectations attached to the “Cole effect”.

The season ends with another major cliffhanger.

Jackie kisses her childhood friend Elliot (Naveen Paddock), while Cole realises he needs to tell Jackie the truth and rushes to win her back. His attempt is interrupted when a rival racer causes his car to crash.

Cole’s fate remains unknown, leaving fans waiting for season four. Rodriguez hopes Jackie ultimately finds happiness, while LaLonde wants Cole to survive, learn from his mistakes and allow the people who love him to help him.
