Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has criticised the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, accusing the organisers of using demonstrations for political mileage rather than addressing genuine public concerns, reports Times of India.
Her remarks came as the CJP-led agitation continued to draw attention, with several public figures, including veteran actors Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj, joining protesters during the “Chalo Sansad” march to demand education and employment reforms, action over alleged examination irregularities such as NEET-UG, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Responding to the protest, Kangana questioned the intentions behind the movement, saying such demonstrations were designed to create headlines instead of offering constructive solutions.
She argued that India’s democratic system provides constitutional avenues for raising concerns and said public protests should not be used to disrupt normal life or mislead young people.
The BJP MP also took aim at celebrities participating in the agitation, suggesting that public personalities should act responsibly and avoid lending support to movements without fully understanding their political implications.
Her comments triggered mixed reactions online, with supporters backing her criticism while others accused her of dismissing legitimate concerns raised by protesters.
The remarks came shortly after reports emerged that veteran actor Shabana Azmi briefly felt unwell during the demonstration.
Azmi was escorted to a nearby security cabin after reportedly experiencing dizziness amid the heat and large crowds before recovering.
The CJP protest has continued to generate political and public debate, drawing support from activists, students and several members of the film fraternity, while leaders from the ruling BJP have maintained that the movement is politically motivated.
