The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has once again lowered the price of gold in the domestic market, reducing it by Tk2,158 per bhori.
Following the revision, the price of 22-carat gold has been fixed at Tk2,19,808 per bhori. BAJUS announced the decision in a press release on Tuesday morning, with the rates coming into effect at 10am that same day. Gold will be sold at these revised rates on Sunday.
According to the association, the price cut was prompted by a decline in the price of pure gold (tejabi gold) in the local market. The new prices have been determined after considering the overall market situation and are inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT).
As per the updated price list, 21-carat gold is now priced at Tk2,09,894 per bhori (11.664 grams), while 18-carat gold will cost Tk1,80,267 per bhori. The price of gold sold through the traditional (Sanatan) method has been set at Tk1,47,316 per bhori.
BAJUS stated that these rates will remain in place until further notice. Although making charges (wages) will be applied based on the specific design of the jewellery, the association clarified that VAT cannot be collected separately from customers, as it is already incorporated into the final selling price of gold and silver ornaments.
So far this year, gold prices in the Bangladeshi market have been adjusted a total of 91 times. These adjustments include 44 price increases, 46 decreases, and one instance where the price was adjusted for VAT.
