The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) and the Department of Accounting at the University of Dhaka (DU) signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday, 9 July 2026, to deepen cooperation in professional education, research, training, knowledge exchange and capacity building.
The agreement, signed at the university’s Faculty of Business Studies, is intended to narrow the gap between academic learning and professional practice, ICSB said in a press release. ICSB President Hossain Sadat FCS and Department of Accounting Chairman Professor Md Maksudur Rahman Sarker FCMA signed the document on behalf of their respective institutions.
Speakers at the ceremony emphasised the growing importance of collaboration between academia and industry in developing professionals equipped with technical competence, ethical values and leadership capabilities to meet the changing demands of the corporate sector.
The two institutions expressed confidence that the partnership would create new opportunities for joint initiatives while promoting good governance and corporate excellence in Bangladesh.
Faculty members attending from the Department of Accounting included Professor Dr Dhiman Kumar Chowdhury, Professor Dr Mahfuzul Hoque, Professor Dr Md Monzur Morshed, Professor Dr Md Musfiqur Rahman and Associate Professor Ishter Mahal.
ICSB representatives included Senior Vice President and Education Committee Chairman Md Rafiqul Islam FCS; Vice President Md Sharif Hasan FCS; Treasurer Md Mizanur Rahman FCS; and council members M Nurul Alam FCS, Mohammad Shahajahan FCS, Mohammed Harun-Ar-Rashid FCS, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan FCS and M Mazedul Islam FCS.
Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Md Shabbirul Alam Chowdhury, Senior Executive Director for Finance and Administration Md Shamibur Rahman FCS and Director of Education Kazi Andaleeb Amin also attended.
The ceremony concluded with the exchange of the signed documents and an official photo session.
