Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday expressed confidence that the National Board of Revenue would be able to achieve its revenue collection target of Tk6,04,000 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
“All the work of the NBR is progressing well. Everyone here is working with enthusiasm. We hope there will be no difficulty in meeting the revenue collection target,” he told reporters after separate meetings with leaders of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association and the Saudi Arabia-Bangladesh Chamber at the NBR office in Agargaon.
Responding to a question, the minister said it would be for the people to judge the new fiscal year’s budget, but added that the way the NBR was functioning, revenue collection would not be difficult this time.
Referring to discussions with business leaders on industrial development, Khosru said the government would continue regular dialogue with entrepreneurs to strengthen the country’s industrial sector.
“The economy cannot be strong unless industries perform well. That is why industry-related problems are being identified and resolved in phases,” he said.
Speaking about the meeting with the BTMA, the finance minister said the association had raised various problems and demands. Some of those were resolved during the discussion, while the government would consider the remaining issues, he added.
Regarding the meeting with the Saudi-Bangladesh Chamber, Khosru said initiatives would be taken through the chamber to provide training to unskilled Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia.
He said discussions were also held on possible financial support the Bangladesh government could extend to Bangladeshi businesses operating in Saudi Arabia.
On the country’s future economic outlook, the minister said growth and employment in the coming years would depend largely on the performance of the industrial sector.
He stressed the need for continued dialogue with businesspeople to identify their concerns and work towards practical solutions.
