Long before he became one of India’s highest-paid stars, KGF actor Yash left home with just Rs300 in his pocket to pursue his dream of acting. Today, the Kannada superstar reportedly commands more than Rs100 crore per film after building a career that transformed him into a pan-India sensation.
According to DNA India, Yash, whose legal name is Naveen, was born into a middle-class family in Hassan, Karnataka. His maternal family named him Yashwanth, which later inspired his screen name. Passionate about acting from childhood, he took part in theatre and dance competitions before leaving home at 16 for Bengaluru to work as an assistant director. When that project was shelved, he joined a theatre troupe as a backup dancer, earning Rs50 a day.
In 2004, he landed his first lead role in a stage production while completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at K.L.E. College in Bengaluru. He entered television in 2005 with Nanda Gokula, where he met his future wife, actress Radhika Pandit, before appearing in Male Billu and Preeti Illada Mele. Yash made his film debut with a supporting role in Jambada Hudugi in 2007 and played his first lead role in Rocky the following year.
His breakthrough came with Kannada hits such as Lucky, Jaanu and Googly, while Mr. and Mrs. Ramachari became his first Rs50-crore grosser. Global recognition followed with KGF: Chapter 1 in 2018 and KGF: Chapter 2 in 2022, which established him as a pan-India star. After reportedly earning Rs25 crore for the KGF films, Yash now reportedly charges more than Rs100 crore per project.
