The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has instructed all maritime ports to maintain local cautionary signal 3, as squally weather conditions are expected to impact the North Bay and surrounding coastal regions.
In a special weather bulletin released this morning, the BMD reported that a well-marked low-pressure system, previously over East Madhya Pradesh, has shifted north-westwards. It is currently positioned over North-west Madhya Pradesh and its adjacent areas.
Forecasters anticipate the system will continue moving in a west-north-westerly direction and is expected to weaken gradually. The bulletin further highlighted that a steep pressure gradient is persisting over the North Bay and nearby areas due to the influence of this weather system.
The directive to keep local cautionary signal number 3 hoisted applies specifically to the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra.
Additionally, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been cautioned to stay near the coastline and proceed with extreme care until further notice.
