Commerce Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan has underscored the importance of mutual coordination, sincere cooperation, and the enhancement of leadership skills among stakeholders to ensure market monitoring activities are more effective and result oriented.
Presiding over a workshop titled “Enhancing Skills of Team Leaders Engaged in Market Monitoring” at the Ministry of Commerce conference room on Sunday, the secretary mentioned that all institutions involved in market supervision are working towards a common goal.
He noted that the primary challenge is not a lack of capacity, but rather ensuring effective coordination, cooperation, and the ability to make swift decisions at the field level.
“Motivation is not just a concept; it must be applied at the field level through practical action plans,” the secretary remarked, adding that market management can be made more dynamic through the exchange of experience and effective working methods.
He further clarified that while market monitoring is primarily conducted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), it is a collective responsibility involving various other government ministries and agencies.
He identified prompt field presence, integrated activities, and responsible execution as the core strengths of the monitoring system.
Addressing the team leaders, the secretary emphasised that leadership must be efficient, timely, and result oriented.
He urged officials to resolve any lack of coordination at the field level quickly to ensure disciplined operations, noting that small successful initiatives in every department strengthen the overall market management.
Highlighting the vision of Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir to modernise the monitoring system through technology, Ataur announced that, as per the minister’s instructions, initiatives will soon be taken to develop a “Power App,” implement an AI-based model for TCB activities, and upgrade the existing market monitoring application to make it more effective.
The workshop was attended by special guests Commerce Ministry Additional Secretary (IIT) Shibir Bichitra Barua, and DNCRP Acting Director General Sebastian Rema, alongside other senior officials from the ministry and the directorate.
