Aminul Islam Bulbul, the former Bangladesh captain who was elected Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president on October 6 last year, assumed office following that election. However, allegations of irregularities and corruption in the election led the National Sports Council to dissolve the board on April 8.
An ad hoc committee was then formed, with Tamim Iqbal initially taking charge of the BCB. He later went on to be elected president of the board.
Since being removed over allegations of misconduct, Bulbul has remained vocal on various issues. Over the past two days, however, the situation has intensified beyond previous disputes. Through his lawyers, he has submitted a 14-page letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), making a series of claims regarding Bangladesh cricket, including allegations related to funding and governance.
Following media reports on the matter, Bulbul released a video statement rejecting the claims, calling them false. However, the letter sent to the ICC has since surfaced publicly, including a signature attributed to him.
In the letter, the elected BCB leadership, through their legal representatives, has requested several measures from the ICC. These include issuing an official warning to the Government of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the National Sports Council.
The letter states that the 7 June 2026 election was conducted through what it describes as a politically influenced voter list formed by an illegally constituted ad hoc committee, and claims this violates Articles 2.4(c) and 2.4(d) of the ICC Constitution.
It further states that the ICC does not recognise any board elected on 7 June 2026 as the legitimate governing body of the BCB and calls for the reinstatement of the elected board.
The document warns that if reinstatement does not take place within a specified timeframe, the ICC may consider actions under Article 2.10(a) of its constitution, including suspension of BCB membership, withholding of ICC funding, and exclusion of Bangladesh teams from ICC competitions.
The letter also requests that all current and future ICC funding for the BCB be placed in escrow or suspended until a final determination is made regarding the legitimate governing authority, the elected board is reinstated, or the ICC Dispute Resolution Committee issues a final ruling, and until related court proceedings in Bangladesh are concluded.
It further adds that no ICC funding should be disbursed to any body claiming to represent the BCB based on the 7 June 2026 election until the dispute is resolved.
