Students of the Dental Department at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barisal staged a demonstration on Saturday demanding the resolution of a long-standing faculty crisis and the improvement of campus infrastructure.
The protest began in front of the college campus at 1pm. During the demonstration, students said academic activities have been hampered for a significant period due to the acute shortage of teachers.
According to the protesters, 39 out of the 52 sanctioned posts in the dental department are currently vacant.
They alleged that this vacancy rate causes regular difficulties for the students, and they demanded immediate recruitment to fill the positions alongside the development of necessary infrastructure.
Following the protest, approximately 300 students from the dental department continued the demonstration by carrying out a procession around the college campus.
