England were held to a 0-0 draw by Ghana in their second Group L match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.
Thomas Tuchel’s men enjoyed most of the possession at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. But they could not find a way past a well organised Ghana defence.
England came into the match after a 4-2 win over Croatia. Ghana had beaten Panama 1-0 in their opening game.
The Three Lions controlled the ball for long spells. However, they created very few clear chances. Ghana stayed compact and made life difficult for England throughout the match.
England’s best opportunity came late in the game.
In the 87th minute, Bukayo Saka cut inside and fired a shot towards the far corner. Goalkeeper Lawrence Asare produced a fine save to keep the scores level.
Seconds later, England came even closer. Reece James delivered a cross into the box and O’Reilly rose highest to meet it. His header struck the crossbar.
The rebound fell perfectly for Harry Kane inside the area. But the England captain blasted his effort over the bar from close range.
Ghana nearly stunned England midway through the second half.
Abdul Fatawu won possession and played Adu through on goal. The forward entered the penalty area but could not finish the move. His shot was blocked before the offside flag was raised.
England also escaped a controversial moment in the 68th minute.
Jordan Pickford rushed out of his box and collided with Caleb Yirenkyi near the edge of the area. Ghana appealed for a foul, but the referee awarded a free kick to England.
Tuchel made several changes as he searched for a breakthrough. Marcus Rashford, Eberechi Eze and Morgan Rogers all came off the bench.
The substitutes added energy, but England still could not find the winning goal.
Six minutes of added time failed to change the result.
The final whistle confirmed a frustrating night for England. Ghana, meanwhile, earned a valuable point and moved a step closer to the knockout stage.
