Kushtia-1 BNP Member of Parliament Reza Ahmed has demanded the enactment of a law to prohibit all types of political activities and meetings in mosques and madrasas across the country.

Speaking during the general discussion on the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on Monday, the MP said, “Mosques are the houses of Allah; people will offer prayers there, recite the Quran. But a political party is going to mosques and engaging in politics. I call on the home minister to enact a law to stop this situation.”

Taking part in the discussion on the 12th day of the budget session, Reza Ahmmed said, “I want to say something political. The politics in mosques in my country must be stopped. Mosques are the houses of Allah. People will pray there, recite the Holy Quran. But a political party goes to mosques and engages in politics.”

He requested the home minister to pass a law so that no political meetings can be held in any mosque or madrasa.

Reza Ahmed further said that just as political parties hold worker meetings and public rallies in open spaces – football fields, school grounds, or auditoriums – they must conduct political activities outside mosques and madrasas.

“Just as we hold meetings openly in football fields, high schools, or some auditorium, others must also adopt that system. They cannot hold meetings in mosques. I do not know whether everyone agrees with my statement or not,” the BNP MP said.

Calling for religious places of worship to be kept outside the sphere of political activities, he said no political meetings or gatherings should take place in mosques.

The session, presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, began at 3 pm.
