A three-day-old baby girl has been reportedly stolen from United Hospital, a private healthcare facility in Sherpur municipality.

According to reports, the infant’s mother, wife of local meat trader Firoz Mia from the Chapatoli area, was admitted to the hospital for a caesarean delivery. She gave birth to a daughter on June 26. Around 9:30am on Saturday, a woman wearing a burqa allegedly took the newborn from the hospital.

Hospital authorities claimed the CCTV camera in front of the ward was not functional at the time. However, footage from an external camera later revealed the burqa-clad woman quickly leaving the hospital premises with the infant.

Firoz Mia, the father of the missing child, stated that legal action will be pursued.

Police from Sherpur Sadar Police Station have visited the scene and launched an investigation.
