Two people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup van on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Manikganj on Thursday evening.
The deceased were identified as Rusel, 27, and Arafat, 20, while the injured are Shah Alam, 30, and Sagar, 22.
Police and local sources said the poultry-laden pickup was heading towards Chuadanga when it collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound truck coming from the opposite direction in the Bhatbaur area around 6 pm, leaving all four people in the pickup critically injured.
Locals and highway police rescued them and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Rusel and Arafat dead on arrival.
The remaining two victims are undergoing treatment.
Golra Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Selim Matabbar said a highway police team reached the spot soon after receiving information from the Manikganj control room and launched rescue operations.
He added that preliminary findings suggest the poultry-laden pickup was travelling towards Chuadanga when the accident occurred, and legal procedures are underway in connection with the incident.
