Bangladesh’s preparations for the Women’s T20 World Cup ended on a disappointing note as they suffered another defeat in their final warm up match.
The side led by Nigar Sultana Joty lost to Ireland by 11 runs at Loughborough. The result extended Bangladesh’s poor run ahead of the tournament.
Ireland batted first and scored 143 runs. Bangladesh needed a strong chase but failed to keep up with the required rate.
Opener Juairiya Ferdous Joya gave the team hope with a brilliant half century. She scored 50 runs from 38 balls and looked comfortable at the crease.
However, the other batters could not provide enough support. Bangladesh finished on 132 and fell 11 runs short of the target.
The defeat came just days after another tough outing against New Zealand in the team’s first official warm up match.
That game was also played at Loughborough University. New Zealand’s batters dominated from the start and posted a huge total of 193 for 3.
Bangladesh struggled in reply. The batting unit never looked settled and managed only 125 runs from their allotted overs.
The result handed New Zealand a comfortable 68 run victory.
Bangladesh had already endured a difficult tri series in Scotland before arriving in England. The team now heads into the World Cup without a win in the preparation phase.
The tournament will begin on June 12 in England and Wales. Bangladesh are in Group 1 and will play their first match on June 14.
Nigar Sultana Joty’s side will take on the Netherlands in Birmingham as they begin their World Cup campaign.
