Residents of Rowmari and Rajibpur upazilas in Kurigram have faced severe hardship due to a continuous power outage lasting nearly 30 hours.
From Monday, May 25 afternoon until Tuesday, May 26 at around 7:30pm, both electricity and communication systems in the two upazilas remained largely non-functional.
The blackout also disrupted mobile network services of various operators. As a result, people could not contact family members or handle urgent needs. In some areas, weak signals from one or two operators were available, but most places remained completely disconnected.
Beyond Rowmari and Rajibpur, several other areas in Kurigram also experienced prolonged outages since Monday night, disrupting education, business and daily life.
Rangpur Palli Bidyut Samity’s Roumari zonal office Deputy General Manager Md Delwar Hossain said the main line was restored around 7:30pm and hoped that the situation would return to normal by night.
Kurigram–Lalmonirhat Palli Bidyut Samity Acting General Manager Md Shamim Parvez said trees often fall on power lines during storms and rain, breaking wires. He said supply is sometimes shut down temporarily for safety reasons to avoid accidents.
