US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday, where he was received by Chinese officials and a crowd of supporters after disembarking from Air Force One.
No public engagements have been scheduled on his arrival Trump following his arrival in the Chinese capital. However, he is expected to hold multiple meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday and Friday.
The visit comes at a sensitive time for the Trump administration, with the president facing declining popularity at home amid the ongoing US and Israeli war on Iran and increasing inflation linked to the conflict.
Ahead of the trip, Trump indicated that trade would be the primary focus of his discussions with Xi.
The president is aiming to secure agreements for increased Chinese purchases of American agricultural products and aircraft.
Saying he would discuss trade “more than anything else” with Xi, Trump made the remarks before departing for China.
