The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is set to establish four new police stations across the capital as part of efforts to enhance law enforcement and improve public services.
DMP Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar confirmed on Friday that a proposal for one station has already been submitted to the ministry, while plans for three additional stations are underway.
He shared the update after inaugurating the Khilkhet Police Outpost at Police Officers Housing Society-1 in the city’s 300 Feet area.
Highlighting the department’s ongoing expansion, Sarwar said accommodations for nearly 8,000 police personnel have been arranged in recent months.
Around 1,600 officers are stationed at the Nilkhet Police Outpost and a similar number at the Demra Police Lines.
A newly inaugurated 20-storey barracks at Mirpur Police Lines can house approximately 2,200 officers up to the sixth floor. Another 20-storey building under construction at Purbachal will accommodate 800–900 personnel of the Diplomatic Security Division and Traffic North Division.
The acting commissioner also outlined developments at other locations. Facilities at Diabari Police Lines are being expanded on a 10-acre plot to relocate traffic, police station, and outpost staff.
Basila Police Lines has similarly been upgraded to host around 250 officers from the Traffic Tejgaon Division. The DMP’s Motor Transport Organisation (MTO) workshop is being moved from Rajarbagh to Basila, where 150-200 mechanics and the deputy commissioner will operate, alongside the fully functional motor driving training school inaugurated last year.
Sarwar revealed plans to upgrade the Rayerbazar Police Outpost into a full-fledged station, pending ministry approval.
In addition, a new station in Bashundhara will be created by reorganising areas of Bhatara, Badda, and Khilkhet, while another is proposed for Khilgaon.
The DMP is also exploring reorganizing parts of Mohammadpur, Adabor, and Hazaribagh to establish an additional station.
Regarding Purbachal, the area is expected to fall under Dhaka North City Corporation, though the DMP has yet to receive an official directive.
Once received, policing operations will commence. Overall, the DMP has proposed four new stations and six police outposts in Purbachal, along with a traffic division, MTO workshop, and police lines requiring approximately 6,000 personnel.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir inaugurated the Khilkhet Police Outpost as the chief guest at the event.
